چکیده

This article describes a system that takes a photograph of a printed equation and produces a LTEX code representation. The process uses adaptive thresholding with mean filtering, morphological edge smoothing, and the Hough transform for image binarization and skew correction. The project uses Hu invariant moments and circular topology to match characters against a database of characters. The algorithm then assembles the appropriate LTEX code from the detected characters. This system is able to detect 93.6% of characters in ideal images and 86.2% of characters in real-world photographs when combining two different skew methods (74%-79%).

Growing the Digital Repository of Mathematical Formulae with Generic LaTeX Sources

One initial goal for the DRMF is to seed our digital compendium with fundamental orthogonal polynomial formulae. We had used the data from the NIST Digital Library of Mathematical Functions (DLMF) as initial seed for our DRMF project. The DLMF input LTEX source already contains some semantic information encoded using a highly customized set of semantic LTEX macros. Those macros could be convert...

Sweave: Dynamic Generation of Statistical Reports Using Literate Data Analysis

Sweave combines typesetting with LTEX and data anlysis with S into integrated statistical documents. When run through R or Splus, all data analysis output (tables, graphs, . . . ) is created on the fly and inserted into a final LTEX document. Options control which parts of the original S code are shown to or hidden from the reader, respectively. Many S users are also LTEX users, hence no new so...
